At Lifeline IVF Center, Mumbai we suggest the best fertility & ICSI treatment suitable to the couples facing difficulty in conceiving a child. We deliver the treatment with high precision and perfection. This approach allows our embryologists in selecting the best quality sperm and egg for fertilization.
What is Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) ?

It is an excellent procedure of in vitro fertilization that helps to resolve sperm-related issues. The ICSI process is much similar to IVF, but the fact is that the fertilization of the sperm and egg occurs in the female body instead of in a dish.

The method involves the direct retrieval of sperm from testis/epididymis and uses them to inject into the center of egg for fertilization. By using special tools and equipment for picking up the best sperms and inserting them in the egg. Both procedures are very critical, sensitive and complicated.

What are The Advantages of ICSI?
  • ICSI procedure can be employed successfully in the cases of previously frozen eggs/sperm, donor egg or sperm, surrogacy, etc.
  • It is the best method to resolve sperm-related infertility issues.
  • It enhances the success rate of IVF by injecting sperm directly into the egg.
  • It is the safest option if the male has low sperm count or poor quality semen.
  • It can be useful to avoid the transfer of genetic disorder to the child.
Who are Candidates for an ICSI Treatment?
The treatment is best suited for couples having following fertility problems:
  • Poor sperm count
  • Irregular sperm with weak motility
  • Problems with ejaculation
  • Presence of a high number of antibodies in sperm
  • Presence of anti-sperm antibodies in the female vaginal fluid
What is the procedure of ICSI?
  • Preparation of the Ovaries: In this step, the doctor gives some medicines to their patient to suppress the usual menstrual cycle for about two weeks. Following this, we recommend fertility drugs to enhance the egg production. We prefer to use multiple eggs as some eggs will not develop or fail to fertilize suitably. To study the ovaries, we use a transvaginal ultrasound, and a blood test to check hormone levels.
  • Sperm selection: To carry out the procedure, embryologist selects a healthy, motile sperm and cautiously injects them inside the egg. For sperm selection, a fertility doctor uses specialized micromanipulation tools and inverted microscopes. For the picking up of individual sperm, the expert uses a uniquely designed ICSI needle. Then they implant the fertilized egg into the womb of the expectant mother.
  • Egg retrieval: For this purpose, an embryologist uses a minor surgical procedure. In this, we use ultrasound imaging and insert a needle into the vagina and ovary to collect the eggs. Sometimes we give medicines to lower and eliminate possible discomfort.
  • Fertilization of Eggs with sperm: In this step, collected sperms and eggs are mixed and stored in a laboratory for further enrichment. The fertilized eggs are now known as embryos kept in the laboratory for 1-5 days before transferred into the uterine cavity of a woman.
  • Preparation of Uterus: It is known as the luteal phase, i.e., the formation of the uterus for embryo implantation. For this, we recommend progesterone based medicines before or after egg retrieval. Sometimes we suggest our patient take the same medication until the pregnancy.
  • Embryo Transfer:In this phase, our expert transfers the fertilized embryos into the uterus of the expectant mother. The successful implantation requires about 6 to 10 days after egg retrieval.
  • Pregnancy Supervision After the successful embryo transfer, we do perform the ICSI pregnancy test. During this step, we monitor the HCG levels for the first two weeks of pregnancy and observe baby’s development by using ultrasound. We recommend you to visit Lifeline IVF Center if you or your friend is dealing with any male infertility issues.
